Tully Mahr Takes Flight as CareerTrackers 2026 Intern of the Year

Awarded Intern of the Year at the 2026 National Gala Awards

On Thursday 5 February 2026 at the National Gala Awards, Tully Mahr was recognised as CareerTrackers 2026 Intern of the Year.

A Master of Engineering student at the University of Melbourne and proud Gundungurra woman, Tully has been building her pathway into aviation during her hands-on internship with Qantas.

From collaborating with engineering teams to applying her studies in real-world settings, she’s embraced every opportunity to learn and lead. A highlight of her internship has been working on innovative ways to repurpose parts from decommissioned aircraft to support Indigenous communities in Alice Springs.

Tully has also spoken about the importance of connection, engaging with First Nations engineers and being part of a culturally safe community within the workplace. That sense of belonging and shared ambition is exactly what CareerTrackers strives to foster through our partnerships.

We’re honoured to walk alongside Tully on her journey and grateful to our partners at Qantas for creating meaningful opportunities where First Nations students can truly thrive.

Watch the full video to hear Tully share her journey into aviation, the impact of her internship with Qantas, and why representation and community matter in engineering.
